Geography
The largest natural freshwater alpine lake in North America [1] . Located 160 km southwest of Williams Lake and 250 km north of Vancouver , between Taseco and Tatlayoko Lakes [2] . The lake lies in a narrow valley surrounded by the spurs of the southeastern part of the Coastal Range . Several of the highest peaks of British Columbia are located in the lake area. The peak closest to the lake - Good Hop (3240 m.) Is located near the southwestern tip of the lake, Mount Queen Bess (3289 m.) - significantly west of the lake, Mount Monmouth (3194 m.) - southeast. All three peaks lie approximately on the same line.
The area of the lake is 180 km², the length is 65 km, the length of the southwest sleeve is 10 km. Altitude 1285 meters. Glacial food. Runoff from the lake along the river of the same name to the northeast, then along the Chilkotin river to the southeast and along the Fraser river to the south, and then westward to the Georgia Strait of the Pacific Ocean .
Fauna
Rainbow trout , salmon and lake whitefish are found in the waters of the lake [3] . Lake Chilko is located in the Ts'yl-os Provincial Park, with the exception of a small portion of the east coast of the lake.
