Overview

Out for Blood was Lita Ford’s first album since the release of the last studio album of her previous band “And Now ... The Runaways” (1979) The Runaways , in which Lita was the lead guitarist. After the group broke up in 1979, Lita temporarily abandoned music and began working as a male perfumery dealer, a gas station attendant at a gas station, a healthy lifestyle instructor. This continued until she met with Eddie Van Halen , who convinced Lita that she should make music seriously, not bury her talent in the ground and create her own group.

Lita was joined by Californian-born drummer Dusty Watson, who managed to light up in the early 80s in the band Jon & The Nightriders, playing surf-rock , and punk band Stepmothers. In 1981, Stepmothers were already re-singing the song “American Nights”, written by Runaways producer Kim Fowley, for the “B” part of their single “Guardian Angels” (the title track was written by Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones ). To record a guitar part on their cover versions, Lita was invited. And when Lita invited Watson to join her, he immediately agreed. The bass guitarist was Canadian Neil Merrivezer, whose career began in the mid-60s, and who was the bassist and vocalist for the rock band Merryweather. The only difficulties arose only with the search for the vocalist, after a long and unsuccessful search for which, Lita decided to sing herself.

In 1983, Ford signed a contract with Mercury Records and immediately went to Hollywood studio Cherokee Studios to record their first album. The album, called Out for Blood , was released in the same 1983 and was a raw heavy metal with the influence of punk rock. The clip was shot on the title album and it was released as a single. The album also included a cover version of Chip Taylor's song “Any Way That You Want Me”, who wrote “Wild Thing”, which the world-wide fame brought by the English band The Troggs .

On the original album cover, Lita was depicted standing against the background of a giant web with a bleeding guitar torn in two, and the inscription Out for Blood was written in blood. In order for the album to appear on the shop windows, the cover had to be replaced with the image of Lita with a guitar on a purple background.
