The name of the tea comes from the way it is grown and harvested. In the early spring, about a week before the young tea leaf is harvested, the tea plantation is covered with a protective screen to cut off direct sunlight. Such shading produces softer tea than regular sentia .
Another shaded tea, known as gyokuro , differs from kabuseti in that it is shaded for a longer period - for a period of about 20 days [1] . To get a natural shadow without completely cutting off sunlight, a special network called “kabuse” is hung over the plants. Unlike Senti grown in direct sunlight, Kabuseta Senti has a sweeter taste and more saturated color.
