History
Technically and outwardly, it was almost identical to the Renault 5 , but was equipped with smaller engines. The length of the wheelbase of the sedan increased by 600 mm, [2] although it differed on the left and right sides due to the lateral use of torsion bar rear suspension, which was typical for many Renault cars at that time.
Another difference between the Renault 7 and 5 was chrome, rather than plastic bumpers mounted on the first model, which gave it a more elegant look. Initially, the volume of the engine installed in Spain was 1037 cm³. About 140 thousand cars were produced, which, however, had limited success outside the domestic market of Spain , since Renault offered a large model 12 for a small price.
R7 was put into production two years after R5, in 1979 it was restyled, in 1980 it received a larger engine - 1108 cm³. Launched in 1980, the five-door version of the R5 used a rear door device similar to the R7. R5 has been significantly upgraded and R7 would no longer justify investment in restyling. Its production was curtailed in 1984 , when it was replaced by the R9 model.
