On June 27, the Prussians moved to Skalitz . Reaching the advance troops to the Nachod-Scalitz-Neustadt road junction, they met part of the 6th Austrian Corps and inflicted a sensitive defeat on the enemy .
Ramming retreated to Skalitsa, asking the commander-in-chief for reinforcements. As a result, three brigades of the 8th Army Corps were sent from Jaroměř under the command of Archduke Leopold , who was given command of all troops from Skalice.
Battle Course
On the 28th, the Archduke was located in front of Skalitsa on the Upa River, on both sides of the road from Náchod and the Schadowitz Railway; Ramming's regiments were assigned to the reserve. On the same day, in the morning, Steinmetz moved from Vysokov and freely deployed his corps against the location of the Austrians. The artillery of the latter, from the heights above the river Upa, north of Skalica, caused considerable losses to the Prussians. Prussian infantry repeatedly tried to storm these heights, but every time the attack was repulsed.
But the troops of Ramming, defeated on the eve at Nachod , and on June 28 did not offer vigorous resistance. Gradually, the forces of the 8th Austrian Corps were exhausted, and the archduke was forced to retreat to Josefstadt .
