Merciful release

Merciful Release is an English record label founded by Andrew Eldrich , frontman for The Sisters of Mercy . As stated by Eldrich in an interview given to them in the early eighties, he founded the label because he wanted to hear himself on the radio. He and Gary Marx recorded the first single, The Sisters of Mercy “Damage Done,” and printed a thousand copies. This record has become a collector's rarity.

Throughout the early 1980s, the band released a number of singles and mini-albums on the Merciful Release, completely controlling the format and look of the recordings. Typically, the label releases are dominated by black color and font, which is typical for all Sisters of Mercy albums. The logo of the label is the image of a male head in the contour of a star.

In addition to Sisters of Mercy, other bands such as The March Violets and Salvation were recorded on the label, followed by Eldrich’s project The Sisterhood, whose bass player Patricia Morrison later joined the Sisters of Mercy.

In 1984, the band entered into a major label with Warner Bros. Records ( Elektra Records in the USA) to distribute their products, while still controlling the Merciful Release.

During the 1990s, when the Sisters of Mercy camp was quiet both in performances and recordings, several recordings of the James Ray band The MK Ultra, their albums Buluga Pop and This Is This , as well as the German band Scoda, were released on the Merciful Release Blush
