He came from an old military family, but during the life of Korenori, the men of his family began to serve in the Office of the Palace Services (Nakatsukasa), occupying secretarial posts there.
Under the emperor Uda (867β931, reign: 887β897), Sakanoue no Korenori participated in many poetry contests held in the palace along with Kino no Tsurayuki , Osikoti no Mitsune , Mibu no Tadamene and others. His poems are included in all leading anthologies, starting with Kokinwakashu . Preserved and his home anthology "Korenori-shu." It is believed that in a poetic manner he is close to Ki-no Tsurayuki.
