Ernest Dushen ( fr. Ernest Duchesne ; May 30, 1874 , Paris - April 12, 1912 , Amélie-les-Bains ) - French doctor ; long before A. Fleming experimentally established the antibiotic properties of penicillium [1] . He also made a great contribution to the development of topical diagnosis in neurology.

Biography
In 1894 he entered the School of Military Medical Service in Lyon .
In 1897, Duchesne discovered penicillin . He noticed that the Arab grooms used mold from their saddles to treat wounds on the backs of horses. Working with mushrooms of the genus Penicillium, he tried mold on guinea pigs and discovered its destructive effect on typhoid wand. [2] Duchesne presented a thesis for a doctoral degree devoted to "antagonism between mold and microbes ." [3]
Ernest Duchene sent his dissertation to the Pasteur Institute , but received no answer. He considered it necessary to continue research, but this was prevented by further military service.
He spent one year in internship at Val-de-Gras , then he was appointed Major of Medicine 2nd Class to the 2nd Hussars in Senlis .
In 1901 he married. Two years later, his wife died of tuberculosis .
In 1904, fell ill with severe chest disease (presumably - tuberculosis ). Three years later he was dismissed from military service and sent to a sanatorium in Amelie-les-Bains .
He died April 12, 1912 , at the age of 37 years. He was buried next to his wife in the Grand Jas cemetery in Cannes .
