Karl Habsburg-Lorraine

Karl Habsburg-Lorraine [1] ( him. Karl Habsburg-Lothringen ; January 11, 1961 , Starnberg , Bavaria , Germany ) - the current head of the House of Habsburg . The son of Otto von Habsburg and Princess Regina of Saxe-Meiningen , the grandson of the last Austrian Emperor Charles I.

Political career

Since 1986, Habsburg has been president of the Austrian branch of the Pan-European Union . After studying law for 12 years, in 1992-1993, he conducted the Who is Who game on ORF on public television [2] [3] . In October 1996 he was elected to the European Parliament from the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) .

On January 19, 2002, Karl Habsburg-Lorraingen was appointed the Director General of the UN ( Organization of Nations and Peoples without Representatives ) by the UN Steering Committee [4] . Since December 7, 2008, he is President of the Association of National Committees of the Blue Shield [5] .

House of Habsburg

From January 1, 2007, his father, Otto von Habsburg , refused the status of the head of the Habsburg dynasty and handed it to his son, who accordingly received the title of archduke [6] . Karl is also a formal contender for the thrones of a number of no longer existing kingdoms, such as the Hungarian and Bohemian , Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Galicia-Volyn principality , Illyria and even the Kingdom of Jerusalem , which was lost by the crusaders in 1291 .

Private life

Karl Habsburg-Lorraingen since 1981 lives in Salzburg in the Casa Austria , formerly known as Villa Swoboda , in Anif [7], located near the city.

On January 31, 1993, he married Francesca Thiessen , the only daughter of Baron Hans Heinrich Thiessen , a European industrialist and his third wife, Fiona Campbell Walter. Karl and Francesca have three children:

  • Eleonora Elena Maria del Pilar Iona, born February 28, 1994 in Salzburg
  • Ferdinand Zvonimir Maria Balthus Keith Michal Otto Antal Banam Leonard, born June 21, 1997 in Salzburg
  • Gloria Maria Bogdana Paloma Regina Fiona Gabriela , born October 15, 1999 in Salzburg, her godmother is Gloria, Princess Thurn and Taxis [8] .

Karl and Francesca divorced in 2003 [9] .
