History
Style Appearance
In the early 1980s, in the movement of lowriders , Cal Cal -style Volkswagen with their classic body lines turned their attention. The movement was called Resto cal. The original body and salons, low suspension - the lower the better, many accessories from that period. Adherents of the Cal-look style considered such projects low-budget and unworthy of respect, even an open confrontation appeared. Opinion about the criminal Resto-cal party made it, to some extent, underground. But over time, Resto cal gained its recognition, along with such phenomena as rap music, graffiti and other attributes of city life.
Famous Clubs
The oldest resto-cal club is considered the “Original German Folks Klub” or abbreviated OG GFK . In 2009, he celebrated his 25th birthday. The club has offices in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, UK and Japan. At the same time, the club is a closed organization - new members are received extremely rarely and only for great services. The significance of this club can be judged by the frequently mentioned phrase that the history of GFK is in essence the history of Resto-Cal. The number of club members in different countries is approaching several dozen people, many of whom have several cars. Often held general meetings, the club is a regular of all large retro events in the United States and in Europe.
Style Requirements
In this style there are no clear laws, but there is some direction within which one can create with a sufficient degree of freedom.
Appearance
Appearance is the most important point for Resto cal. Only for Volkswagen on the basis of the Beetle with an air vent correctly the name Resto Cal [1] . Initially, the car had to have an absolutely standard body (the car of a certain year of manufacture must fully comply with it: be painted in the color that was in the catalogs of that year, have body panels of this year of production, have the correct emblems, bumpers and other elements), salon, ride on factory pressed discs (solids) with caps, at the same time have the lowest possible suspension and, if possible, a number of accessories from Volkswagen catalogs of that time (roof racks and engine compartment lid, “skirts” covering rear arches, fog lights). But over time, the style changed a little, new elements appeared. One of the most important is the narrowed front beam, which allowed the car to be understated even more. Various light alloy wheels began to appear, which were offered as options in the catalogs of the 50s-60s.
Tires in front should be as narrow as possible (from 125 to 145 mm wide (125R15, 135R15, 145 / 65R15), at the back, on the contrary, wide (from 165 / 65R15 and up to 205 / 70R15). One of the features of the appearance is a huge negative camber rear wheels, due to the design of the independent rear suspension "Beetle".

Technical Features
Recently, an increase in engine displacement from standard 1000–1200 cm³ to 1500–2500 cm³, sports camshafts, modernized intake and exhaust has become popular. On many cars you can see disc brakes instead of the original drum. But all changes are reversible, if necessary, everything can be returned to the factory settings. This also applies to the engine - usually the original unit is carefully stored.
