Biography

Egor Ivanovich was born on July 14, 1789 in the parish of St. Jacobi, in the Estland province, where his father was a pastor. He received his primary education at the Revel Gymnasium, and in 1806 [4] [5] he entered the University of Derpt for the study of medicine. Having defended his dissertation: “Initiis morborum” (July 16, 1811 [6] ), Rauch received a doctorate in medicine and surgery and went to Petersburg, where he began to practice.

In 1812, he entered the Obukhov hospital as an intern and was appointed a doctor in the Finnish Jäger Regiment . However, his private practice more and more increased and therefore, back in 1814, he refused to serve in the regiment, and in 1828 he left the Obukhov hospital .

In 1816, Princess Antoinette of Württemberg recommended Rauch to Dr. J. W. Willie :

... I already wrote about this to Count Tolstoy, but I do not count on his assistance. If you will allow me, Mr. Rauch will present all the necessary documents confirming my favor to him; Steinel’s positive review attached to this letter also confirms it. This is a knowledgeable person with a wonderful character.

There is also a letter of recommendation by Count Steinel, in which he recommends to Princess Antoinette Dr. Rauch, who served in the jaeger regiment formed in Vyborg, in the rank of college assessor . [7]

Mason , in 1817-1819, a member of the St. Petersburg box "Peter to the truth" [8] .

In 1828, he investigated the mineral springs of Staraya Russa, where in 1834, with his direct participation, the “Mineral Water Facility in Staraya Russa” was opened, which belongs to the military department. [9]

Among the life physicians of Creighton V.P. (1791–1864), Arendt N.F. (1785–1859) from March 4 to 15, 1829 he treated Emperor Nicholas I. [10] . In 1829 , when his reputation was firmly established as one of the best doctors in the capital, E.I. Raukh was invited to the sick Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and appointed her life physician . In 1833, he accompanied her on a trip abroad. In the post of life doctor E.I. Rauch spent 16 years.

Since 1831, he took a very active part in the classes of the Medical Council , as its advisory member. In 1837, E.I. Raukh was invited to join the Committee on Supervision of the Court Pharmacy, and the following year, due to the absence of Life Doctor Rühl , he served as a medical inspector for institutions under the auspices of Empress Maria Fedorovna .

E. I. Rauch stood at the origins of creation and was an active member of the German Medical Society in St. Petersburg ( German: Der deutsche arztliche Verein zu St. Petersburg ). The first director of the company from January 21, 1819 to 1842 was the famous surgeon Professor I.F. Bush . In 1842 , when his health deteriorated sharply and he began to see poorly, then on his recommendation the doctor (doctor of medicine and surgery) E.I. Raukh was elected chairman (director) of the society. K. K. Seidlitz (1798–1885) was elected Secretary of the Society. Just this year, NI Pirogov entered the society, who became its most active member [13] .

On April 12, 1846, E. I. Raukh, a full-time state councilor , was granted a diploma for hereditary noble dignity [15]

In 1857, he was elected a member of the Commission, which was instructed to speak out regarding vaccinations of the plague in cattle, made in 1853 and in 1856 in New Russia . On behalf of the Ministry of State Property, E. I. Raukh visited plague-vaccinating institutes in the Kherson province and presented a thorough and detailed report on this issue. The Derpt Veterinary Institute celebrated the work of Rauch, electing him, when he celebrated the 50th anniversary of his activity, an honorary member of the Institute. On December 17 of the same year, Rauch was elected an honorary member of the Imperial St. Petersburg Medical and Surgical Academy .

In addition to medical activities, E.I. Rauch was actively engaged in commerce. In 1836, together with the 1st Guild of St. Petersburg, merchant Carl Samuel Nottbeck (Carl Samuel Nottbeck, 1779 - 1847 ) from Revel bought the Finlayson factory in Tammerfors . From 1835 to 1860, the number of workers increased from 60 to 1578 people, and revenue reached 450 thousand rubles in silver . [16] The Rauch family was co-owners of the factory until its nationalization in 1945. EI Rauch also owned several other enterprises in Finland .

In 1851, Rauch acquired the Zavodovka estate in the Kherson province , which was managed by the nephew of his wife Justus Johann Konrad Riesenkampf. Subsequently, the grandson of E. I. Rauch, General G. O. Rauch, became the owner of the estate.

He died on April 30, 1864 in St. Petersburg, was buried in the Smolensk Lutheran cemetery [17] .

After the death of Rauch in 1864 , Academician Karl Maksimovich Baer reported to the Physics and Mathematics Department of the Academy of Sciences that Dr. Egor Ivanovich Raukh “bequeathed to the Academy Library a collection of drawings depicting natural-historical objects. Partially they belong to the famous Sybil Merian . "
