The Ukrainian Research Institute of Clinical and Experimental Neurology and Psychiatry ( Kharkov ) is the main neuropsychiatric research institution in Ukraine , a research center that develops urgent problems of theoretical and practical neurology, psychiatry and narcology. Subordinate to the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine .

History
- 1921-1922 - the central Ukrainian Scientific Research Psychoneurological Institute was organized in Kharkov (organizer and first director of the institute, professor A. I. Geymanovich);
- 1926 - the Ukrainian Institute of Clinical Psychiatry and Social Psychohygiene was organized in Kharkov (organizer and leader Academician V.P. Protopopov );
- 1932 - the Ukrainian Psychoneurological Academy (UPNA) was established on the basis of the Ukrainian Research Psychoneurological Institute, the Ukrainian Institute of Clinical Psychiatry and Social Psychohygiene and the Psychoneurological Faculty of the Medical Institute (Academy President: 1932-1934 - E. Zatonskaya, Acting President 1934 - M. A. Goldenberg , 1934-1937 - L. L. Rokhlin );
- 1937 - The Ukrainian Psychoneurological Academy was reorganized into the Ukrainian Psychoneurological Institute ;
- 1985 - a branch of the Institute in Feodosia - the Republican Narcological Psychoneurological Center;
- 1988 - the Kiev Department of Neurovertebrology of the Kharkov Research Institute of Neurology and Psychiatry with treatment departments was opened in Kiev ;
- 1992 - the Institute received the status of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Clinical and Experimental Neurology and Psychiatry .
Structure
The Institute includes 6 departments: neurology and neurosurgery, psychiatry, narcology, experimental laboratory and scientific and organizational departments, information and patent services, which in turn consist of 16 structural units, as well as an advisory clinic and clinic with 260 beds.
Science
The main areas of research:
- questions of the clinic and treatment of infectious diseases of the nervous system with a broad evolutionary-biological multidisciplinary approach to their understanding;
- issues of diagnosis, clinic and treatment of mental illness;
- comprehensive study of the problems of alcoholism and drug addiction;
- the fight against vascular diseases of the brain (problems of cerebrovascular pathology);
- studies of neurophysiological and neurochemical manifestations of mental and nervous diseases
