Street History
The street began to be built up soon after the founding of the city, in 1710 . At the expense of the state treasury, wooden one-story houses for immigrants were built.
The street looked dirty, it was densely populated by the "third-hand St. Petersburg people." These residents subsequently became the prototypes of the literary heroes of F. M. Dostoevsky . From September 1861 to February 1867, the writer changed three apartments on this street: in house No. 1 (1861-1863), in house No. 9 (April 1864 ) and in house No. 7 (until 1867 ), where he wrote novels “ Crime and Punishment ”,“ Player ”and met his future wife A. G. Snitkina .
In the XVIII century, the street was paved with cobblestones (existed until the 1960s). The sidewalks were 1.5 meters wide from a stone slab laid in two rows. Since 1893, water from the city's water supply appeared in the houses.
