The Big Encyclopedic Dictionary is universal, first two-volume (1st edition), later a one-volume encyclopedic dictionary , published by the Big Russian Encyclopedia publishing house in the following years:

The dictionary includes about 80,000 entries, including about 20,000 biographies. Format 84 × 108/16, volume 152.88 printed pages ( 1456 pages in the 1997 and 2002 editions). The chief editor is Academician A. M. Prokhorov .
The dictionary was positioned as a universal reference publication covering all areas of modern knowledge, but along with this, special attention was paid to highlighting the problems of the formation of a new sovereign Russia .
The publication is a continuation of the publication " Soviet Encyclopedic Dictionary " after the collapse of the USSR and the formation of the publishing house " Big Russian Encyclopedia ".
The electronic publication “ Megaencyclopedia of Cyril and Methodius ” was created on the basis of the “Great Encyclopedic Dictionary”.
