Gurgen Torgomovich Baghdasaryan ( Armenian Գուրգեն Բաղդասարյան ; born October 26, 1955 , Yerevan , Armenian SSR ) is a Soviet freestyle wrestler , coach, two-time champion of the USSR (1983, 1984), European champion (1980), winner of the World Cup (1977). Biography
Gurgen Baghdasaryan began to engage in freestyle wrestling in 1969 under the leadership of Yuri Babayan . In 1974-1975 he was a member of the youth team of the USSR, was a medalist in European and world championships in the age category under 20 years. In 1977, he won the IX Summer Universiade in Sofia and won the World Cup, and in 1980 he won the European title in the weight category up to 57 kg. In 1983 and 1984 he won the USSR Championship, in 1985 - the bronze medal of the European Championship.
After completing his sports career in 1986, he entered the Higher School of Trainers. After graduating, he worked in the Moscow School of Sports . In 1992, he continued to engage in coaching in Germany . Since 2010, he is the head coach in the wrestling club from the city of Zulgen .
