History

Ludwika, view of Lake Vesman

In the mid- 16th century , iron ore deposits were discovered during the search for silver in the vicinity of present-day Ludwika. Since Sweden needed iron as much as silver , King Gustav I Vasa ordered the founding of a crook-bell (an iron foundry owned by the crown) in southern Dalarna [5] . The area was suitable for iron production, and because of the dense forests grow around the mines. Finnish families were invited to produce charcoal , which is necessary for the production of iron from ore, subject to the exchange of the right of residence to the obligation to produce charcoal. To drive the machines of the iron factory, a duct was used, now called Ludwika ström [6] , which connects Lake Wesman [7] and Ovre Hillen [8] . In the 17th century , iron processing facilities were opened in the vicinity of Ludwiki, which gave a significant impetus to the increase in the population of Ludwiki. In the 18th century, the bastard goes into private hands. Ludwik opens sawmills and builds a dam. At the end of the 19th century, Ludwika began to turn into a center for electrical engineering and received a railway ( 1873 ). In 1919, Ludwika was recognized as a city . Now in the commune of Ludvika, 25,813 residents live, according to 2011-06-28, of which about 15,000 are in the city of Ludvika.

Title

The modern name of Ludvik came, according to the main version, from Laviken (Läviken - lä - lee side and viken - bay) and was first mentioned in 1539. Later, in the 18th century , the “too simple” name was ennobled, probably under the influence of the name Ludwig .
