Robert M. Shavlakadze ( cargo. რობერტ მიხეილის შავლაყაძე ; born. April 1, 1933 , Tbilisi , Georgian SSR , USSR ) - Soviet track and field athlete, high jumper. Olympic champion, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.

Biographical

Born on April 1, 1933 in Tbilisi.

He graduated from the Georgian State Institute of Physics and Technology (1955), Tbilisi State University (1961), trainer-teacher. Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences. Member of the CPSU since 1964.

He played for the Dynamo team (Tbilisi). In 1959, the first of the Soviet high jumpers was able to defeat the US representative. Twice he represented the USSR at the Olympic Games (1960 and 1964, 1st and 5th places, respectively). Personal best - 2 m 17 cm (1964).

Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1960). Commander of the Order of Lenin.

Sports Achievements

  • Olympic champion in high jump (1960; 2 m 16 cm - Olympic record).
  • Bronze medalist of the European Championship in 1962 (2 m 09 cm).
  • 1964 USSR Champion.
