Portage Bridge (Portage) Portage Bridge , fr. Pont du Portage - A bridge over the Ottawa River downstream of the Chaudeur Bridge. It connects the capital of Canada, the city of Ottawa (in the Wellington Street area , the Provincial Gardens and Territories ) with the city of Gatineau (Quebec), where it passes into the Mezonnev Boulevard at its intersection with Laurier Street and Alexandre Tache Boulevard in the Hull sector. Passes through the island of Victoria.

The bridge was built by decision of the National Metropolitan Commission and opened in 1973. It was named after the historic dragging road (English and French portage ), bypassing Schojder Falls and rapids ending in the place where the bridge is now located.
Directly near the bridge, in Gatineau , there is a complex of government skyscrapers bearing the names of Portage I, Portage II, etc., in memory of the former drags (as well as in association with the bridge).
