Central Bus Station (Chisinau)

Chisinau Central Bus Station

Bus station The central bus station ( Mold. Gara Auto Centralǎ ) is one of the three bus stations in Chisinau . Located in the Central sector of Chisinau at 58 Metropolitan Varlaam Street. The bus station serves both passenger traffic within the Republic of Moldova (mainly suburban) and foreign destinations ( Ukraine ).

History

Chisinau Central Bus Station was built in 1974 (architect I.A. Zagoretsky). The capacity of the building was 800 people. In the building of the bus station on the ground floor there was a waiting room, ticket offices, left-luggage offices, various kiosks, a bus station information desk, a hairdresser, as well as administrative premises. On the second floor, catering facilities were opened. By 1982, the passenger flow of the Chisinau Central Bus Station reached 9.5 million passengers per year, the number of flights every day was 732 to cities, regional centers and villages of the MSSR , as well as to 40 cities of neighboring Ukraine . There was also one international route (Chisinau - Bucharest ). In 1982, the Yuzhnaya bus station was opened (now Автовокзал Chisinau Southern Bus Station ), to which flights were transferred to the settlements of the south of Moldova, as well as to some cities of Ukraine (Vilkovo, Reni, Izmail and others) [1] .

By the end of the 1990s, the Central Bus Station, built to serve mainly suburban routes, ceased to cope with the load. Parking lots for numerous intercity and international buses have ceased to be enough. The technical condition of the bus station was far from normal. Noise and exhaust fouled residents of nearby houses. In 1997, information appeared that it was planned to build a new bus station (northern direction) [2] . In 2005, most of the intercity and international routes were transferred to the new Chisinau Автовокзал the Severny bus station [3] , also many routes were transferred to the South bus station (in particular, international flights to Romania , Bulgaria , Germany , Greece [4] ).

In 2008, reports appeared in the press that the Chisinau Central Bus Station would be expanded to include the Central Market (adjacent to which), which, in turn, would be transferred to a site near the Northern Bus Station (which would require demolishing old greenhouses, part of the storage market and old houses). Currently, the project is being negotiated with various departments [5] .
