History

One of the oldest radial streets in the southern part of the former "city of Yaroslav" . It appeared on the way from the Lyadsky Gate to the Mikhailovsky Monastery , in honor of which it received its name. As a street on which poles were set for lighting, it is mentioned in the document of 1799 . On the plan of 1803 it is designated as one of the main streets of old Kiev. In 1922-1991, it had the name of the street of the Paris Commune.

The name Mikhailovskaya for some time was Rudneva Street in Novaya Darnitsa .

Development

The street has a perimeter estate building system with courtyards. Some farms are through, go to parallel streets - Malaya Zhytomyr and Trehsvyatitelsky , forming their architectural appearance. The houses were built tightly to each other. This is explained by the fact that in the second half of the XIX century, when this territory began to be built up, the price of land here greatly increased. The street is built up mainly of two to six-story buildings erected in the middle of the XIX - at the beginning of the XX centuries, in the styles of late classicism, historicism, modernism and brick style that are characteristic for this time. Famous architects of those times took part in their construction - N. N. Gordenin , N. N. Kazansky , A.-F. Krauss , V.I. Kulikovsky , V.N. Nikolaev , P.I. Sparro , R.G. Tustanovsky , K.F. Shiman , ,ile and others.
