SP-19 (pontoon park)

SP-19 - a special pontoon park, which was in service with the engineering forces of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War . It was intended for the construction of bridge and ferry crossings on wide rivers with a high flow rate and provided the passage of railway cargo weighing up to 180 tons.

In 1939, the park was adopted by the Red Army, becoming the only self-propelled pontoon park in the world.

The fleet consisted of 122 self-propelled pontoons-boats and 120 bulk span farms. One railway crane, also included in the park, was used to build bridges and ferries. Due to the large size, the elements of the park were transported by rail. Span farms were mounted on boats and served as the carriageway of bridges. The staff of the SP-19 fleet included 576 pontooners .
