Club career
In 1978, Clive made his debut with the Queens Park Rangers at the age of 17. In the first full match for the new club, he made a hat-trick against the Coventry City goal. But Allen’s brilliant game didn’t help KPR stay in the top division. The next season, the young striker scored 28 goals, which caused keen interest from many European top clubs, the most quick of which was Arsenal , which offered for the player 1,250,000 pounds . At that time it was a record amount offered for a young player [1] .
Allen failed to play a single official match for the new club. In the same year, he was sold to Crystal Palace , where he scored 9 goals in 25 games over the season, becoming the club’s top scorer.
In 1981, Allen returned to KPR, scoring 13 goals in the 1981/1982 season. In the same season, “KPR” achieved its best result in the FA Cup in its entire history, having managed to reach the finals. Over the next two seasons, Allen scored 27 goals.
In 1984, the player signed a contract with Tottenham Hotspur . The deal amounted to 700,000 pounds [1] . In the summer of that year, he made his debut in the national team.
In the first match for the new club, Allen made a double. In total, in the 1984/1985 season he spent 15 matches in which he scored 8 goals, and Tottenham Hotspur became the third. For the most part, I missed the next season due to an injury.
In the 1986/1987 season, the “spurs” switched to the favorite scheme of the new steering team of David Plate - 4-5-1. Allen became the only striker to receive assistants to such “stars” as Glenn Hoddle , Osvaldo Ardiles and Chris Waddle . For the season, Allen scored 33 goals in the championship and another 16 in the Football League Cup and FA Cup .
The following season, Allen scored only 9 goals and was sold to the French Bordeaux for £ 1 million. For the season spent in the club managed to score 13 goals.
Allen's further career was no longer so successful. He managed to play Manchester City (53 matches, 16 goals), Chelsea (16 matches, 7 goals), West Ham United (38 matches, 17 goals), Millwall (12 matches) and Carlisle United ”(3 matches).
Team Career
The debut in the national team took place in 1984 . Then Allen came on as a substitute in a friendly match against the Brazilian national team , which ended in a victory for the British with a score of 2-0. Allen also took part in two other England matches with South American national teams. Allen never managed to distinguish himself for the national team.
