History
On November 30, 1923, Pope Pius XI issued the bull Dominicis gregis , which established the Diocese of Petrolina, separating it from the Diocese of Pesqueira .
On February 15, 1964 and June 16, 2010, the Diocese of Petrolina transferred part of its territory for the construction of new dioceses to Floresta and Salgeiro .
