Kusarigama ( 鎖 鎌 ) - Japanese edged weapon . It appeared during the Muromachi period [1] .
Content
Design
Kusarigama consists of a sickle kama ( 鎌 ), to which an impact load ( fundo ) is attached using a chain ( kusari ( 鎖 ).) The length of the handle of the sickle can reach 60 cm, and the length of the iron piece of the sickle is up to 20 cm. The handle of the sickle is perpendicular to the handle, it is sharpened from the inner, concave side and ends with a point. The chain is attached to the other end of the handle, or to the butt of the sickle. Its length is about 2.5 m or less [2] .
Application
The technique of working with these weapons made it possible to inflict a blow with the help of a weight on the enemy, or entangle him with a chain, and then attack with a sickle [2] .
In addition, it was possible to throw the sickle itself into the enemy, and then return it with the help of the chain. Thus, kusarigama was used in the defense of fortresses [3] .
