History
Greek parishes existed in Germany since the 19th century. Since the 1920s, due to the influx of labor migration, the opening Greek parishes were subordinate to the Thyatira Metropolis with its center in London .
On February 5, 1963, the Patriarchate of Constantinople established an independent German Metropolis [1] in Germany , the Netherlands [2] and Denmark [3] .
On August 12, 1969, the territory of Denmark became part of the newly formed Swedish and Scandinavian Metropolis [4] , and the Benelux countries became part of the Belgian Metropolis [2] .
On December 20, 1972, the Metropolitan Charter was adopted, and on October 29, 1974, the metropolis was recognized as a state corporation in North Rhine-Westphalia (since 1981, further recognition has been followed in all federal states).
Since 1966, the metropolitan’s contacts with the Conference of European Churches began , and on November 8, 1978, the German Metropolis became a full member of this international organization.
In 1978, the construction of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Bonn was completed .
On June 22, 2011, the secretary of the German Metropolis, Archimandrite Apostol (Malamoussis), said in an interview with the Vatican that in connection with the economic crisis in Greece , the German Metropolis is experiencing serious financial difficulties due to the reduction in cash receipts [5] .
