Triumphal Arch in Kiev - a pre-existing wooden structure - the Triumphal Arch . It was established in 1857 to commemorate the arrival of Emperor Alexander II , which was expected on January 31 of the same year. It stood on the site of the modern Air Fleet overpass . Dismantled in the 1890s .
Near the arch there was a ceremonial meeting of the royal train. It was planned to put a stone arch in the same place, but the emperor collected the money proposed for this purpose to spend on some more useful business (over time, the Alexander Craft School was opened on them).
The project of the arch belonged to Victor Hartmann , was exhibited at his exhibition in 1874 . This project inspired Modest Mussorgsky to create one of the “Pictures from the Exhibition” - the play “Heroic Gate”.
