Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town’s area is 134.3 km², of which 120.4 km² is land and 13.9 km² is water (10.34%).
Demographics
According to the 2000 census [1], there were 1,723 people, 669 households and 479 families. The population density is 14.3 people / km². On the territory of the town, there are 714 buildings with an average density of 5.9 buildings per square kilometer. The racial makeup of the population: 98.26% White , 0.35% African American , 0.52% Native American , 0.12% from other US races, and 0.75% from two or more other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.46% of the population. 19.3% of the population were Norwegians , 14.6% Germans , 14.1% Swedes , 13.5% Finns , 7.0% United States or American and 6.3% Irish according to the 2000 census.
Of the 669 households, 30.2% raised children under the age of 18, 64.4% were married couples , 5.1% were single women, and 28.4% of households were non-family people. 23.8% of households consisted of one person, with 6.1% of them being single elderly people over 65 years of age. The average household size is 2.58, and families are 3.09 people.
26.2% of the population is under 18, 6.4% are between the ages of 18 and 24, 26.5% are from 25 to 44, 29.9% are from 45 to 64 and 10.9% are over 65 years old. The average age is 41 years. For every 100 females there were 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.7 males.
The average annual household income was $ 46,118, and the average annual family income was $ 57,292. The average income of men is $ 42,381, while that of women is $ 27,891 . The per capita income was $ 23,116. Below the poverty line were 1.7% of families and 4.1% of the total population of the town, 2.8% of which are under 18 and 4.5% are over 65 years old.
