Emblem Description
"In silver is a black walking fox with scarlet eyes and tongue."
Justification of the symbolism and history of the coat of arms
The coat of arms reproduces the historical symbolism of the Principality of Obdorsk as part of Russia.
For the first time the emblem of Obdoria appeared in the "Tituliarnik" in 1672 (in the same shield with the emblem of Udoria). The Obdorsky coat of arms had the following description: "In a silver field, a black fox with scarlet eyes and tongue." [one]
In 1731 Obdorsky coat of arms received official approval.
In the “Manifesto on the full coat of arms of the All-Russian Empire” of 1800, the Obdorsky coat of arms had the following description: “A black fox holding its head to the left; in a silver field. " In the “Manifesto” in the picture of the coat of arms, the fox changed its direction of movement compared to the old coat of arms. [2] In accordance with the rules of heraldry, the fox is depicted facing to the left of the viewer, and the description of the coat of arms comes from the supporters.
The modern emblem of Salekhard was approved on February 18, 1998 and entered into the State Heraldic Register of the Russian Federation with the assignment of registration number 229.
On December 9, 2004, in order to bring the municipal legal acts in compliance with the new version of the Charter of the municipal entity, the city of Salekhard, by the decision of the City Council of the municipal entity, the city of Salekhard No. 39, the Regulations on the official symbols of the city of Salekhard were approved.
