The United States Department of Health and Human Services ( HHS ) is the United States Federal Executive Department . The main goal of the activity is to protect the health of all Americans and provide basic social services.
Until 1979, it was called the “ Department of health, education, and welfare , ( HEW )”. Headed by the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services , Alex Azar currently holds the post.

Creation History
The idea of creating the Ministry of Education and Social Security was first proposed by President Harding in 1923, but for various reasons it was not implemented.
The main unit is the State Health Service, which includes the main research and medical units of the ministry, as well as the US Health Service Officer Corps under the command of the Chief Military Surgeon.
Financing
The annual budget is 1,020 trillion US dollars (2015).
