Biography

Childhood

Valery Obodzinsky was born into the family of Pole Vladimir Ivanovich Obodzinsky and Ukrainian Evgenia Viktorovna Kazanenko in Odessa , on Peter the Great Street (now Dvoryanskaya ), on January 24, 1942, when the city was occupied by Germans and Romanians. Little Valera was brought up by the grandmother of Domna Kuzminichna, who worked as a janitor. His uncle, who was 3 years older than Valery, stole a sausage from a German, which caused the latter’s anger. The German nearly shot both boys. The grandmother, who had arrived in time, saved them from death, who threw herself at the feet of the German and literally began to kiss his boots [3] .

Youth

After school, Obodzinsky changed several working professions: he worked as a fireman, pulled up springs on mattresses, and also worked for a short time in an artel, making locks for furniture

In 1959, the 17-year-old Valera starred in the episode of the feature film "The Black Sea ", where he was brought directly from the street. In the film, he played the role of an orchestra musician [4] .

In 1961 he met Nelya Kuchkildina, daughter of the captain of the ship "Azerbaijan". She became his wife and bore him two daughters - Angela and Valeria [ specify ] .

Musical career and censorship

The beginning of his professional career was the Kostroma Philharmonic. Then he worked as a mass worker on the ship " Admiral Nakhimov " . After this, the place of his work was the Tomsk Philharmonic , with concerts from which he traveled all over Siberia, and then - all of Russia . After the Tomsk Philharmonic, he returned to the Kostroma Philharmonic, this time as a soloist. Artistic directors at that time were Valentina Fedorovna Makarova and her husband Valery Ivanovich .

During one of the tours abroad, Obodzinsky met the Bulgarian singer Lili Ivanova , who was popular in those years, who, in turn, introduced Valery to the Bulgarian composer Boris Karadimchev . Boris presented the artist with his song “The Moon on the Sunny Beach”, and at the request of Valery O. Gadzhikasimov wrote the Russian text for the song. In 1964, Obodzinsky performed this song at the International Music Song Festival in Sopot (Poland), and this performance brought great success to both Obodzinsky and the songwriters.

The first records of Valery Obodzinsky came out in 1966 - the solo minion "Valery Obodzinsky" with two songs and 7 national albums ("V. Obodzinsky; Est. Orchestra of P. W. Lundstrem", "Musical Kaleidoscope (7th series)" , “Pop Orchestra performed by O. Lundstrem", "Pop Songs", "Lyric Songs", "Pop Orchestra performed by O. Lundstrem" and "Songs of Soviet Composers") [5] .

In 1966-1967 worked in the orchestra of Oleg Lundstrem [4] .

In 1967 he went on a two-month tour of Omsk - Krasnoyarsk - Tomsk - Khabarovsk - Vladivostok, concerts were held with unchanged success. Then the whole country recognized him . The rise in popularity has led to increased criticism in official publications. Often it was cut out from concerts and recordings of " New Year's Lights ."

From 1967 to 1972 - soloist of the Donetsk Philharmonic .

In 1970, the first record of the singer "Valery Obodzinsky Sings" [6] [7] was released .

Obodzinsky’s voice is soft, pleasant, delicate, tender tenor . The repertoire is mostly love lyrics. Obodzinsky’s singing is always felt, passionate, hot, sometimes to the grotesque .

The phenomenon of Obodzinsky was in a peculiar, distinctive style of singing, extremely popular in the 1970s. Obodzinsky did not seriously study singing, in fact he is a nugget, with an extremely developed by nature musical instinct and hearing .

The popularity of Valery Obodzinsky in the first half of the 1970s was enormous [4] , but despite this, the entrance to the Central Television was closed for him after coming to the post of chairman of the USSR State Radio and Television Sergey Lapin in 1970. Such performers as Vadim Mulerman , Maya Kristalinskaya , Aida Vedishcheva , Larisa Mondrus and others gradually stopped filming on television. It is believed that Lapin removed these people for anti-Semitic reasons (they had Jewish roots). The chairman also included Obodzinsky, who, however, was not a Jew [8] .

Attempts were made to re-appear on Central Television. After recording one of the Blue Lights, Sergey Lapin uttered a phrase that later became popular: “Take away Gradsky immediately!” They objected to him: “This is not Gradsky, but Obodzinsky.” - “Moreover: only Kobzon is enough for us!” [9] .

In the years 1973-1977. - cooperation with VIA “ Faithful friends ”.

According to music journalist Vladimir Marochkin , the main hit of 1974 was the song "Old Vulture" from the American movie " McKenna 's Gold ", which was performed off-screen by Valery Obodzinsky. For a long time this song became the main one in the performer's repertoire. Especially for Soviet hire, the poet Leonid Derbenev wrote the Russian text for the song "Old Turkey Buzzard", which was originally performed by Jose Feliciano . Vera Derbeneva, the wife of Leonid Derbenev, recalled that Obodzinsky complained to her that he was constantly forced to sing “The Old Vulture” for an encore three times per concert [10] .

Along with the songs of D. Tukhmanov (“ These eyes are opposite ”, “ Eastern song ”, “Leaf fall”, “Organ plays”), A. Zatsepina (“Mirage”, “How many girls in the world”, “Song about the first jump”, "March of the paratroopers"), Obodzinsky introduced the Soviet listener to the works of Forest Reed , Tom Jones , Joe Dassin , Karel Gott , Demis Russos , The Beatles [11] . All this, as well as high ability to work, made Obodzinsky the idol of the Soviet public, especially women. Million copies of his records were sold out completely and in a short time after release. Music critics noted the creative growth of the singer in the early 1970s, the expansion of his repertoire .

We give 14 concerts in 10 days, a full house , plus another 20 percent we sell input. His official concert rate was 13 rubles and 50 kopecks, plus any allowances. The result was about 40 rubles per concert. At the zenith of his fame, Obodzinsky earned 10 times the secretary of the regional party committee . Moreover, part of the concerts was formalized, and part of the “funds” of the local philharmonic society . Of course, such things were not encouraged . Therefore, instead of the Honored Artist of Russia, he was given the Honored Artist of the Mari Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic .
Administrator of the singer Pavel Aleksandrovich Shakhnarovich

The further creative fate of the singer was unsuccessful. The desire to earn money at that time was not welcomed, moreover, there were rumors that the singer was very dissatisfied with his income and was going to leave the country . All this led to the fact that his performances were excluded from concert and tour programs. An attempt to organize a tour in the USA was also unsuccessful.

Later years

By 1987, Obodzinsky completely left the scene. He divorced his wife and lived in a civil marriage with one of the fans. He worked as a watchman in a tie factory, did not engage in professional singing. He suffered from alcoholism [4] .

In the early 1990s, through the efforts of his common-law wife Anna Yesenina, Obodzinsky decided to resume his creative activity and recorded an album of songs by Alexander Vertinsky . In September 1994, in the concert hall "Russia" was the first performance after a long break. There was a full house; after the first song, the audience exploded with applause - no one could believe that the person who had gone through drunkenness and drugs was able to keep his voice clean.

In the last years of his life, Valery Obodzinsky resumed touring, gave several concerts in various cities of Russia. In one of his last television appearances in the program “Golden Hit” (“Channel One” [ specify ] ) Valery Vladimirovich said [12] : “Very often they ask me: why did you disappear for so long? Creative life evolved differently. There was a moment when I reached my ceiling. And I realized: they will not let me go further. Tired of humiliation in front of everyone: in front of the television and radio workers, who cut my recordings at the suggestion of the powers that be. Culture officials said that I was not singing in a Soviet way ... Time has passed. ”

The grave of Obodzinsky at the Kuntsevsky cemetery in Moscow.

Obodzinsky died April 26, 1997 from heart failure . He was buried at Kuntsevsky cemetery (plot number 10).

The memorial service was held at the Central House of Artists. About 300 people came to say goodbye to Obodzinsky, including colleagues of the deceased: Joseph Kobzon , Lev Leshchenko , Albert Asadullin .

Anna Yesenina [13] :

“At the civil funeral service in the Central House of Arts, there was no end to speeches about how everyone was friends with Valera and how they loved him. And there stood on a special stand his photograph in a frame with glass. And suddenly it fell to the floor, and the glass shattered with terrible roar. After that, everyone shut up right away. Thus Valera stopped this apotheosis already from there, from heaven. "

.

During the funeral service in the church, the priest said: “Every clergyman dreams of dying like he does - he died near Easter. And this means that all sins have been removed from him. ” [14] .
