The German 60th Infantry Division ( German: 60th Infantry Division ) is a military unit of the Wehrmacht from the Second World War. Formed in October 1939 in Poland on the basis of the so-called "Eberhardt Brigade" (a special unit consisting of Danzig Land Police units). In August 1940 it was transformed into the 60th infantry motorized division

Division Fight
From May 1940, the division fought in France and remained there, carrying out occupation service, until April 1941.
Then the division was transferred to Romania and took part in the invasion of Yugoslavia and Greece .
The division took part in Operation Barbarossa , advancing through Uman and the Dnieper as part of the first tank army (commander General von Kleist ). She also took part in the attack and occupation of Rostov-on-Don , until she was knocked out along with other German troops on the Mius River.
In a series of defensive battles in the winter of 1941-1942, the division managed to maintain its position. In March 1942 she took part in the battles near Kharkov .
Later in 1942, the division was transferred to Stalingrad , took part in the battles , at the end of 1942 it was encircled near Stalingrad and destroyed. In mid- 1943, an order was issued to disband it. [1] [2]
