History
The creation of small-caliber artillery in the Red Army led to the creation of small-caliber howitzers. The design of the 45-mm gun of the Lender MM system was started in 1923 at the KOSARTOP battery (commission on special artillery experiments). On September 25, 1925, a contract was signed with the Krasny Putilovets factory for the manufacture of a prototype 45 mm MM Lender gun. The gun was completed in early 1927. “MM” means “Low Power”. The BM cannon, that is, "high power", was also created - it was assumed that with the same caliber and the use of the same shells, a larger charge of gunpowder would allow this gun to effectively fight tanks. However, the rapid development of armored vehicles made this project unpromising.
The 45-mm gun of the Lender system MM was officially named the “45-mm battalion howitzer arr. 1929. " By the beginning of 1930, the AU had ordered 130 45-mm battalion howitzers mod. 1929 In total, between 1931-1932, about 100 45-mm howitzers were delivered.
Despite the small number of manufactured 45-mm howitzers, they took part in the Great Patriotic War. In 1942, new shooting tables were even issued for them.
