In all the games, the main character was called Nathan Spencer , a special forces soldier with a special bionic hand-hook, which can catch on the floor and walls. This series of games is one of the few in the platformer genre where the character cannot jump - instead, he must use a special hook hand. It was in this series of games that the hook concept was first used, with which you can catch on obstacles. Subsequently, such gameplay elements were used by other developers in such series of games as Earthworm Jim or Tomb Raider . [one]
Game Series
The first game in the Bionic Commando series was released in 1988 on arcade machines and was positioned as the heir to another successful Commando game. In the same year, Capcom released an adaptation of the Bionic Commando game for the NES console, which was very different from the original. In 1998, the Bionic Commando version was released for the Game Boy portable console.
The sequel, Bionic Commando: Elite Forces , was released in 1999 for Game Boy Color . [2] The game was only partly similar to its predecessor and had a completely different plot, not related to the rest of the series. The main characters were an unnamed man or woman. The game has new character movements, such as the ability to jump from platforms and use sniper rifles over long distances.
On August 13, 2008, Capcom released an improved remake of the first game in the series called Bionic Commando Rearmed on the Microsoft Windows , PlayStation Network , and Xbox Live Arcade platforms . [3] The game talked about events that happened before the next part of the Bionic Commando series, released in 2009. [4] The sequel, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 , was released in February 2011. [5]
