Story
Former Clay marine (Fraser) is a gardener in a villa, the elderly owner of which has a non-living character. The young man learns that he is a well-known director in the past, the creator of films about Frankenstein , which went down in the history of world cinema, James Wale (McKellen).
Lone and forgotten by all, except for the faithful servant of Hannah (Redgrave), Whale is engaged in painting and recalls the days of former glory. Clay listens attentively to his tales of a life so unlike his own, and later agrees to pose for a portrait. Despite differences in social status and sexual preferences, they become friends. However, it is not carnal desire that drives the old man: an insufficiently educated but physically developed Clay could become the monster that will help the old man pass away.
