Content
History
Established on January 30, 1929 by the President of the Republic of Portugal, Oshkar Fragoso , called the “Order of Charity” or “Good Intentions” ( port. Ordem da Instruments de da Benemerência ). In 1976, renamed the Order of Merit.
Degrees
The Order has six degrees:
- - Cavalier of the Grand Cross ( Grã-Cruz - GCM);
- - Grand Officer or Grand Officer ( Grande-Oficial - GOM);
- - Commander ( Comendador - ComM);
- - Officer ( Oficial - OM);
- - Cavalier ( Medalha - MedM);
- Honorary Member ( Membro Honorário - MHM).
At the same time, the Big Cross is worn on a wide ribbon (a black ribbon with a yellow stripe in the middle) over the shoulder (from the right shoulder to the left thigh ), and the grand officer and the commander are on the neck. The first three degrees have premium slats (the first two are gilded , for the third degree silver plated ). The gentleman wears an order on a ribbon, with a socket, on the left side of the chest.
Insignia
The Order is a blue enameled Maltese cross in gold, suspended from a golden laurel wreath . In the center of the cross there is a golden medallion with a white enamelled ring around a golden five-pointed star in a blue circle. On the ring is the inscription: BEM MERECER. On the back of the order is the coat of arms of Portugal , located in the center of the blue ring with the inscription REPÚBLICA PORTUGUESA [1] .
