Born in the family of Alexander Ivanovich and Anna Justinovna ( nee - Lapshin) Selivanovs. He was interested in drawing from early childhood. The development of his abilities contributed to the observation of the work of his uncle - the famous Soviet artist Nikolai Iustinovich Lapshin . In August 1938, his family moved to the village of Biryulyovo near Moscow. Here Nikolai is fond of wood carving, olepka, making clay soldiers for games, burning them in a home-made oven and painting them.

After graduating from the seven-year school, he entered the Moscow Art School of Memory in 1905 to study. The first course is accepted conditionally, as he has no art education and only from the second year he becomes a full-fledged student. The diploma work “Nakhimovets” was presented in 1952 at the Republican exhibition in the House of Artists at Kuznetsky Most [1] .

Nikolai continues his studies at the Surikov Institute in the workshop of the sculptor M. G. Manizer . While still a student at an art school, he is fond of Sergey Yesenin’s poetry and for the term paper chooses the image of a poet. From this point on, his work is inextricably linked with the name of Yesenin. The diploma work "The first step of the industry" was exhibited at the All-Russian exhibition dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Komsomol.

In the mid-sixties of the twentieth century, Nikolai Alexandrovich was elected to the Board of the Union of Artists , and after some time - the chairman of the sculptors section of the Moscow Regional Union of Artists. [2]

In 1972, the nautical school from the city of Nakhodka ordered N. A. Selivanov to make a large cadet figure. For this work, the sculptor is posed by Leonid Kazakevich, who served five years in the navy.

In the early 1980s, the 25th anniversary of the creation of the atomic icebreaker "Lenin" and N. A. Selivanov was celebrated by the order of the sailors of the Murmansk Shipping Company to create a series of portraits - the creators of the country's first atomic icebreaker. 16 portraits were made, including I. V. Kurchatov, A. P. Alexandrov, B. M. Sokolov, I. I. Afrikanov. After the death of Academician A. P. Alexandrov, a decision was made to erect a monument to an outstanding scientist in the territory of the Kurchatov Institute ; N. A. Selivanov, together with N. A. Kovalchuk, performed this work.

In 1995, the country celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sergei Yesenin . On the anniversary of the poet, Nikolai Alexandrovich creates 22 portraits - 4 portraits of Yesenin and 18 - people who surrounded the poet and influenced his work. Poets: Klyuev , Blok , Gorodetsky , Ganin , Mariengof , Shiryaevts , Pribludny, Klychkov , Oreshin . Esenina's close women: Izryadnova , Isadora Duncan , Zinaida Reich , Miklashevskaya. The portrait of the son of Yesenin and the writer Khlystalov , who had been investigating the death of Sergey Yesenin for many years, was executed [3] .
