John Voight was born December 29, 1938 in the small American city of Yonkers , New York . He studied at the Washington Catholic University in the Faculty of Fine Arts. After graduating from university in 1960, he entered the Neighborhood Playhouse school in New York.
He worked in musicals , theater and television. In 1967, he was awarded the Theater of Peace Prize for his participation in the play F. Gilroy's play This Summer This Season. He was invited to TV and became a television star due to his participation in the series 1963-1969 - “The Naked City”, “Defenders”.
He made his film debut in 1967 . For the performance of the role of Joe Buck in the movie " Midnight Cowboy " (1969), he received several awards at once - the Prize of New York film critics , Golden Globe and British Film Academy Award ( BAFTA ) - presented to him as the most promising debutant. For the creation of the image of Luke Martin in the film " Returning Home " ( 1978 ), the actor received awards: " Oscar ", New York film critics, " Golden Globe " and the festival in Cannes .
Personal life
In 1962, he married actress and dancer Lori Peters, but in 1967 the marriage was dissolved. In the second marriage, he was married to Marshallin Bertrand from December 12, 1971 to 1978. Voight has two children from this marriage: son - James Haven (1973), daughter - Angelina Jolie (1975).
Social activities
