History
On December 27, 2007, by decision of the Holy Synod, the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy were separated from the Korsun diocese and subordinated to the authority of the Bishop of Bogorodsky, Vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. At the same time, a bishop with the title Bogorodsky was not appointed at that time, and the Synod decided to keep the temporary archpastoral ministry of the parishes for Archbishop Innokenty (Vasiliev) of Korsun [7] In connection with the appointment of Bishop Nestor (Sirotenko) to the Korsun department in 2010, The Bogorodsk chair passed to him.
On February 2, 2008, Archbishop Innocent of Korsun, the manager of the Italian parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate, consecrated the church house in Rome, intended for the further organization of the diocesan administration under it [8] . In 2011, work began on creating a full-fledged diocesan administration at the stavropegic church of St. Catherine the Great Martyr in Rome . For these purposes, the church allocated two rooms, which housed the secretariat of administration, the office and the archive. Since that time, issues relating to the issuance of documents, issuance of certificates, official correspondence regarding the Italian parishes are resolved through the diocesan administration in Rome, and not in Paris (as before) [9] .
On May 21, 2012, the Administration of the Parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy ( Italian: Amministrazione delle parrocchie del Patriarcato di Mosca in Italia ) received the status of a legal entity in the Italian Republic [10] .
In 2013, Archbishop Mark (Golovkov) noted: “The creation of a centralized structure for managing parishes in the Italian Republic is one of the important areas of activity of the Russian Orthodox Church in the field of care of foreign institutions. So, in 2007, the Administration of the Moscow Patriarchate Parishes in Italy was formed, and in May last year it received the status of a legal entity, which is a significant achievement for further development. In essence, such a structure is an analogy of the diocese ” [11] .
On July 25, 2014, by the decision of the Holy Synod, the following parishes were accepted into the Administration of the Moscow Patriarchate’s parishes in Italy: in honor of St. Maxim, Bishop of Turin (Turin); in honor of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Udine); in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Bologna); in honor of St. Nicholas (Lecco); in honor of St. Nicholas (Novara); in honor of the Three Saints (Piacenza); in honor of the saints Equal to the Apostles Constantine and Helena (Imol); in honor of the archangel Gabriel and the Archangel Michael (Rovereto) [12] .
In July 2014, the Administration of the Moscow Patriarchate’s parishes in Italy issued a Servant in Italian [3] .
In 2017, Bishop Anthony (Sevryuk) celebrated [13]
The main task that we set for ourselves, opening the parishes united today in the Administration of the Parishes of the MP in Italy is to feed primarily our flock living on the territory of the Italian state. There are 67 parishes in Italy, the second largest diocese of the MP abroad is located on the Apennines. Among our flock there are Russians, Ukrainians, Moldovans, and representatives of other nationalities. There are, of course, Italians, but there are few of them. These are mainly those who married our parishioners. Coming with their spouses to the temple, and sometimes inspired by their personal example, husbands sometimes accept Orthodoxy and become our parishioners. There are Italians who themselves came to the Orthodox faith - through reading books, meeting wonderful pastors, and so on. But we do not conduct a targeted mission among the local population.
On February 26, 2019, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church abolished the stavropegic status of the Nicholas parish and the Yekaterin parish in Rome, including them in the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in Italy [14] .
