Medal for participation in the European War (1915–1918) ( Bulgarian. Medal for participation in the European War (1915–1918) ) - a special commemorative medal of the Bulgarian kingdom , dedicated to the country's participation in the First World War . The medal was established by decree number 9 of Tsar of Bulgaria Boris III of December 9, 1933 . Together with the medal for participation in the European War , a medal was established for participation in the Balkan Wars (1912-1913) .

Awarding Conditions
The medal was awarded to all the living soldiers of the Bulgarian army , who distinguished themselves during the First World War, as well as relatives of those killed in the war. Also the medal was awarded to civilians: volunteers , orderlies , surgeons and journalists . In addition to this, foreign citizens could also be awarded with a medal (as a rule, these were soldiers of the armies of the Bulgarian allies in the war).
Description
The obverse of the medal depicts the coat of arms of the Bulgarian kingdom against the background of crossed swords and surrounded by laurel and oak branches. The reverse shows the years of the participation of Bulgaria in the world war of 1915-1918 and a wreath of wheat , bay leaves and oak leaves, symbolizing Macedonia , Thrace and Mezia . The tape has a triangular shape and a red stripe in the middle, along the edges there are green and white stripes. Medals for civilians have a white instead of a red stripe, and for the relatives of those killed - a black stripe.
The medal was worn on the left side of the chest. Medals were made in Germany and Switzerland and sent in several batches to Bulgaria. The medal was awarded to 50,000 people in Bulgaria and about 199,000 foreigners ( Germans , Austrians and Hungarians ) who were allies of Bulgaria in the First World War.
