Lasta

Lasta ( geez : ላስታ lāstā ) is a historical region in north-central Ethiopia . It is on its territory that Lalibela , the former capital of Ethiopia during the reign of the Zagwe dynasty and the location of 11 medieval monolithic churches, is located.

According to J. Huntingford ( GWB Huntingford ), the first mention of the Last is found in the XIV century, although it is obvious that people lived there long before. [1] In the eighteenth century, a Franciscan - Czech Remedius Prutky named Lastu among the 22 provinces of Ethiopia, still remaining under the emperor, but singled it out as one of six provinces that he considered "large and truly worthy of the title of kingdom ". [2] Next to Lasta, Behemder was to the west of her, and Wag to the north.
