Killer hunter

After FBI agent Thomas Mackelvey detained the offender in violation of the procedure, he is suspended for six months and then transferred from Dallas to Albuquerque . He soon begins an investigation into two murders. Fran Culock arrives to help with the investigation from Dallas, with whom Mackelvey had known and worked before. During the investigation, suspicion falls on Benjamin O'Ryan, who is known to have been in a psychiatric hospital for several years and called himself a former FBI agent; however, now his whereabouts are unknown. The third murder takes place, and the victim is the same criminal, for the detention of which Mackelvey was punished six months ago (then the criminal was released). Mackelvey understands that all three murders are the work of one person, and the killer wants to convey a message to him.

Mackelvey examines O'Ryan’s papers left in the clinic, and realizes that he carefully monitored the abductions and tried to establish patterns between them. In search of an answer to the question of what the three men killed by O'Ryan have in common, Mackelvey enters the house of the first victim ( salesman ) and discovers a warehouse of posthumous masks from people who are reported missing. It turns out that both the traveling salesman and the other two victims of O'Ryan were serial killers , that is, he basically searched and killed the killers. From documents and video charts thrown up by Mackelvey, he learns that O'Ryan really worked for the FBI in the secret project Icarus - having developed telepathic abilities , he learned how to analyze the information about the killer’s victims and “see” the killer himself and determine his whereabouts.

Now O'Ryan is searching for another killer who has abducted and killed many children - the “zero suspect”, who cannot be found because he leaves no traces and his characteristic handwriting cannot be established. Mackelvey feels that he, too, has a vision beginning in which he sees O'Ryan, as well as a huge rushing truck- refrigerator . In search of a killer, Mackelvey stumbles upon O'Ryan, who stuns him, and then handcuffs him to the lair of the killer, whom he finally identified. O'Ryan shows Mackelway dozens of grave mounds (victims of the killer) and offers to end this. When the killer arrives in the refrigerator, Mackelvey and O'Ryan chase him in a car, but both cars roll over. Mackelvey catches up with the killer and in anger kills him with a stone. O'Ryan asks Mackelway to kill him too, saying that he can no longer hear in his head the voices of the victims of those murderers whom he has been looking for all these years. Trying to pounce on Mackelway with a knife, O'Ryan forces Fran to kill him with a pistol.
