The Governor of Macau ( Chinese 澳門 總督 ; port. Governador de Macau ) is the highest official of the Portuguese Empire on the territory of the Macau colony from 1623 to December 20, 1999. Appointed by the head of state of Portugal. On December 20, 1999, powers were transferred to the office of the Executive Director of the Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China of Macau, in connection with the transfer of sovereignty over Macao to the People's Republic of China .

Governor of Macau
The Governor of Macau was responsible for the internal and local administration of the colony. External relations and military needs were examined by the Portuguese government in Lisbon.
