Biography
Born in the village of Kart-Jurt ( Karach.-balk. Kart-Jurt ) on the right bank of the Kuban . It comes from the kind of Karachai Uzden Aliyev . In 1902 - 1914 he studied at various educational institutions of Karachai , Kabarda , Balkaria , received a higher Muslim education. After the revolution of 1917 he organized a union of Muslim teachers, met with V.I. Lenin .
During the Civil War, he worked underground in Baku, Crimea, and the Caucasus. With the advent of Soviet power, he headed the department of the Highlanders of the Caucasus in the People’s Commissariat [1] . He worked as the head of the mountain department at the North Caucasian Revolutionary Committee (since 1920) [1] , the chairman of the Revolutionary Committee of the Central Administrative District , the director of the North Caucasus Regional Research Institute of History, Economics, Language and Literature, the director of the Museum of Mountain Peoples.
In 1921-1922 he was among the initiators of the unification of Karachais, Circassians and other nationalities within the framework of the autonomous region; was one of the organizers of KChAO [1] .
Known as a scientist, author of The New Karachay Primer ( 1923 ), The Russian-Karachay-Balkarian Dictionary, The Karachay-Balkar-Russian Dictionary, Textbooks In Unity - Strength, The Karachay-Balkarian Grammar, The Karachay Essays "," Kara-Hulk "(" Black people "), etc.
In 1921 he composed the alphabet based on the Latin alphabet as applied to the Karachay-Balkarian language .
In 1935 he graduated from the Institute of the Red Professor , was the scientific secretary of the Department of Leninism of the All-Union Correspondence Institute of Law . He taught Karachay-Balkar language at the State Institute of Theater Arts. Lunacharsky , Arabic at MSU .
In 1937 he was arrested on libelous charges and executed. In 1957, he was posthumously rehabilitated.
Memory
His name is given to the streets in the cities of Kislovodsk [2] , Cherkessk [3] , Karachaevsk . A museum is open at Kart-Jurt aul school. The name of Umar Aliyev was assigned to the Karachay-Cherkess State University .
By order of the city administration of Kislovodsk dated July 10, 1997 No. 735, Umar Aliyev was awarded the title "Honorary Citizen of the City of Kislovodsk" [2] .
