Observatory History
Due to the increase in exposure from Cairo and inside the city of Helwan, where the first modern Egyptian observatory was located, in 1962 a new observatory was established, located in the village of Cottamia. In 1963, an 188 cm reflector was installed at the observatory - the largest telescope in North Africa and the Middle East.
Observatory Tools
- 188 cm telescope (installed in 1963 from de: Sir Howard Grubb, Parsons and Co. , Cassegrain Focus F / 18, Newton Focus F / 5). It was modernized in 1997. + CCD camera, spectrograph. The exact same tool was installed at the Radcliffe Observatory (South Africa) .
