The Official Charts Company ( OCC ), formerly known as the Chart Information Network ( CIN ) and The Official UK Charts Company, is the British music organization responsible for compiling the UK official music charts - UK Singles Chart , UK Albums Chart , UK Official Download Chart and other, more focused music and video charts. It is included in the international list of chart companies recognized by the International Federation of Phonogram Manufacturers [1] .
OCC compiles charts based on the collection and analysis of sales data for music releases at retail outlets. Data collection is carried out by Millward Brown , a company specializing in marketing research [2] .
OCC is managed by the British Phonographic Industry and the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA). The company has been compiling charts since July 1, 1997. Previously, several companies have been involved in this, including Gallup .
In addition to the general singles and albums chart, the company publishes more narrowly focused charts such as the UK Dance Chart , UK Indie Chart , UK R&B Chart , UK Rock Chart and Asian Download Chart, as well as Scottish Singles and Albums Charts , Welsh Singles, Welsh Albums, UK Budget Albums.
On September 5, 2008, the company rebranded and changed its name from the Official UK Charts Company to The Official Charts Company, and also began to use the new logo [3] .
