El Cuneytra ; Quneitra ( Arabic مُحافظة القنيطرة ) is one of the 14 governorates of Syria .

Content
Geography
Located in the southwestern part of the country. The administrative center is Madinat elBabas (city of Quneitra 1964-67). The area is 1861 km² , 600 km² under Syria control. In the northeast it borders with the Damascus governorate, in the east with the Dar'a governorate, in the south with Jordan , in the west with Israel partially along the Jordan River and Lake Tiberias , in the north with Lebanon .
History
Most of the governorate was captured by Israel during the Six Day War of 1967 and the Doomsday War of 1973 and formed the controversial Golan Heights .
In 1981, the Israeli Knesset adopted the “Law on the Golan Heights”, where it unilaterally proclaimed Israeli sovereignty over this territory. The annexation was invalidated by the Resolution of the UN Security Council of December 17, 1981 and condemned by the UN General Assembly in 2008 [1] [2] .

- Fick - Subdistricts Fick, Elmacher
- Quneitra - Quneitra Subdistricts, Jabta Elshab, Masadeh (under the occupation of Israel), Husnia (under the occupation of Israel)
