Chonoski hornbeam ( Latin Carpinus tschonoskii ) is a species of deciduous tree from the genus Hornbeam ( Carpinus ) of the Birch family ( Betulaceae ).

Title
The species was described in 1881 by the Russian botanist Karl Ivanovich Maksimovich (1827–1891) and named after the Japanese botanist Sugawa Tносnosuke ( Chōnosuke Sugawa , another spelling variant - Tschonoski Sukawa ; 須 川 長 之 助, 1842-1925), who was a faithful assistant to Maksimovich the time of his work in Japan .
Distribution and Ecology
In nature , the species range covers China , Japan and the Korean Peninsula [2] .
It grows in mountain forests.
Botanical Description
A tree up to 15 m high. Young branches and petioles of leaves are soft-haired.
The leaves are oval-elliptic to oblong-oval, 4–9 cm long, pointed, rounded at the base, thinly serrate, young pubescent on both sides, later hairy only along the veins from below.
Pestle earrings 5-7 cm long, with pubescent axis and pedicle. Bracts ovate to lanceolate, sharp, serrated on one side, with a small lobe at the base and whole on the other side.
The fruit is a bare nut .
