Geographical position
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.38 km² (4.25 km² - land, 0.13 km² - water). La Prairie is located on the banks of the Mississippi and Prairie Rivers.
Through the city pass US 169 ( US Highway 169 ) and US 2 ( eng. US Highway 2 ).
History
The post office in La Prairie worked from 1890 to 1917 [1] . The city was named after the Prairie River, on which it stands [2] .

In 2010, 356 people lived in the city (of which 49.7% of men and 50.3% of women), there were 188 households and 86 families. On the territory of the city 175 buildings were located with an average density of 41.2 buildings per square kilometer of land. Racial composition : White - 23.3%, Native Americans - 73.6% [3] .
According to the 2010 census, the population of the city was distributed as follows: 35.7% - residents under 21 years old, 54.7% - from 21 to 65 years old and 9.6% - aged 65 years and older. The average age of the population is 32.2 years. For every 100 women in La Prairie, there were 98.9 men, while for 100 adult women, there were already 106.0 men of comparable age [3] .
Of the 188 households, 72.9% were families: 31.4% of married couples living together (12.7% with children under 18); 25.4% - women living without husbands, 16.1% - men living without wives. 27.1% had no family. The average household size is 3.02 people, and the average family size is 3.41 people. 22.0% of the population lived alone, 9.3% were single elderly people (over 65) [3] .
In 2015, out of 277 people over the age of 16, 134. had a job. In 2014, the average family income was estimated at $ 31,083, for a household - at $ 28,125. The per capita income is $ 13,458 per year [3] .
