Zamchyshche ( Belorussian. Zamchyshcha ) is the historical district of the capital of Belarus, the city of Minsk , located on the site where the Minsk Castle used to be . In ancient times, Zamchyshche was surrounded by ramparts and wooden fortifications of the castle and was located on Castle Hill, formed by dividing the Nemiga riverbed into two branches at the confluence of the Svisloch .

History
The main street of the castle, and then Zamchishcha, until the middle of the 20th century, was Zamkova Street, which is the oldest in the city. It crossed Zamchishche diagonally from east to west, and already in the first half of the 16th century it was paved with cobblestones . The street stretched beyond the rampart until the intersection with Bolshaya Tatarskaya . From the south-west Zamchishche skirted the Zavalnaya street; from the north-west - Zavalny Lane .
At the beginning of the 20th century, Zamchishte was part of the second police station of the city.
Modernity
Minsk Castle was located in the area of the modern square on March 8th . On the territory of Zamchishcha there are now Alesya and Romashka shops, residential buildings, the Sports Palace , part of Pobediteley Avenue . On this territory, the cultural layer of the ancient Castle has been preserved, in connection with which it is an archaeological monument and is protected by the state.
