Trifilia

Elida

Trifilia ( dr. Greek Τριφυλία , lat. Triphylia ) - in ancient times, the southern part of Elis , in the Peloponnese . According to legend, it was named after the name of the son of Arcade - Trifil; but in reality this name indicates the merger of three tribes ( τρεῖς φυλαί ), whose political center was considered the temple of Poseidon in Samik.

The most ancient inhabitants of Trifilia were Epithets , Paroreats and Cavcones . The latter were driven out of the country by the Minoans , who, together with the Epheans and the Arcadians (or Elei), formed the triple composition of the population of Trifilia. Since the last Macedonian wars, the name Trifilia was no longer mentioned. In modern Greece, this name refers to the community of the same name (dim) in the periphery of the Peloponnese , located on the territory of ancient Trifilia.
